The penis is made up of three separate cylinders which is explained in the following articles in detailed fashion. From that three parts, two of them, the paired cylinders (technically the corpora cavernosa) make up the majority of the bulk and the erectile functioning of the penis. As the penis approaches the body, these two cylinders split from each other and they are anchored to the pelvic bone by a membrane.
